Elevator electricity consumption and CO2 calculator
This sheets calculates, how much energy uses counter-weighted elevator, based on several factors:
- Total meters traveled up and down
- Your weight
- Maximal and minimal elevator’s electrical consumption (factory settings)
- The speed of the elevator
How to use it
- Download excel sheet Elevator electricity consumption and CO2 calculator
- Change the values in yellow fields (there are some defaults for me and 320Kg elevator in our multi-appartment house)
- Read the results displayed in orange fields
Note: This calculator is part of the project Lunoschod, which I tried to calculate how much electricity can be saved by using stairs instead of elevators. It has started in 27th April 2008 and two people joined it. Over 10 months 12227 m were travelled up by stairs (and down), with 35 kW saved.

Some other numbers can be read in calculator:
- Total coal and CO2 saved (if electricity comes from coal powerplant)
- Equivalent CO2 produced by car travel
- Equivalent 40W bulb switched on time (days)
