TODO list before your interview

This is a procedure which I follow always when I am heading to some job interview. I am creating this post mainly for my future reference and will evolve it as I gain more experience. But if it is handy for you too, it will be my pleasure should it help:

  • Titivate yourself (polish shoes, shave, shower, brush teeth)
  • Try to discover information on the person who you will meet - background, style, education, and their “hot button” issues. Google for his/her name, I used it on my former boss and he was pleased that I knew about his previous successes… I got that job :).
  • Visit place in advance to be sure to find it in time
  • Print your CV and references - there is a chance your interviewer will be unprepared and you can hand it to him/her
  • Research organization’s products, structure, services, financial status, competitors, reputation and any recent major changes. Put it down and take it with to the interview (this step takes me approx. 1 hour)
  • Based on this research, prepare your answers tailored for the company and position you are applying for. Feel free to use CV Question trainer.xls. It contains button Give me another question, it randomly chooses one of the questions in the list and gives hints for the best answer. This step takes me most of the time (approx. 1 - 2 hours).
